From the supplier: The effectiveness of communication between managing general agents (MGA) and insurance agencies was unintentionally demonstrated at a joint meeting wherein Sovereign Insurance Services Inc produced a non-standard homeowners policy that met the urgent needs of MGAs. Because of hurricane danger, many Long Island homeowners have had difficulty in obtaining insurance. Sovereign Insurance Services, located in nearby Staten Island, NY, was totally unaware that one of its least demanded policies answered the problem until MGAs disclosed the need at the meeting.

After almost 6 weeks I finally got my adjusters proof of loss estimate from the damages to my home from Hurricane IKE, while I understand the total devestation here on the island, I am worried about time frames and how things go from this point on.. 1. We have 39 thous in damages on a 204 thous dollar home, should I expect the flood ins. company to dispute or try to fight this estimate? How long does it usually take IF things go smoothly from here on out? I have tennants I need to get back in their units so I can get rent again to help with mortgage payments. 2. How does this work, do I find the contractors, plumbing, drywall, flooring electricial or does my flood compnay choose who does what, and how do the funds for repairs get dispursed? Do they send me a check for it all at once, does it sit in a bank like an equity line of credit so to speak or do I submit receipts and invoices and the company cuts the contractors a check? Never been thru a claim process (or such a devestating hurricane) before, thanks in advance.... (more...)

Okay I live on Long Island New York and I recently gotten into a car accident im 19 years old I drive a 2007 Range Rover Sport im not sure if the car has anything to do with it... it was my fault I hit her from behind but she stoped at a green light on a busy road ... We live in NY (Long Island) and recently came home from vacation to find a bad flood, caused by a washing machine hose which broke from wear and tear. There is damage, both upstairs and down. The washing machine is upstairs in the kitchen, and there was water in a few rooms which damaged carpeting and walls - not too horrible. The worst was downstairs where the water caused the ceilings to collapse in two rooms. Needless to say, this will wind up being a large claim. How nervous should we be about being dropped? State Farm is sending a second person to look at the damage, after receiving the estimates from the restoration company and flooring contractor, in order to approve the work. We have only had one other small claim, for a lost wedding band, 10 years ago. We have three other policies, in addition to our home insurance. Thank you for any advice you can give. (more...)

I am 19 years old and i go to school part time, so i am not able to get my moms insurance, and i also work but dont get insurance there either. I come from a low income family, so i was wondering if there are any companies that you could qualify for and be able to get an insurance for cheap or free. i was talking to one of my friends who said he went to the hospital and registered for insurance and qualified and gets it for free with metroplus, but he lives in bk and that insurance is for people who only live in bk, quens, manhatten...so if there is something for those areas there has to be something for long islanders, right? I have a small business on Long Island in New York. I need a business partner who would be responsible for getting clients and obtaining payment from each clients' insurance company -- all other aspects of the business are covered. In exchange for their efforts, the partner would receive a percentage of the income the company receives. I wouldn't require experience or understanding of the market, only good speaking/phone skills, common sense and a bit of resourcefulness. All of the work that would need to be done could arguably be done by computer and phone, although some strategies for obtaining clients would likely be more successful if implemented in person. Thus, being local to Long Island would be preferred, if not necessary. How and where do I go about finding a business partner that would most likely match these requirements? Am looking for a partner rather than an employee because I intend to pay via commission rather than a salary. The business pays very well when there are clients, so a partner who is capable of drumming up clients will be quite comfortable. The person need only invest their time, and if they're not local, their phone service. I have everything else covered, I just don't have the time and am not very good at chasing down new job leads..
