Resolved Question: Need advise for injuries incurred.?
While on vacation in a private villa in the Carabian, I fell down several stairs (Thurs evening). We now know I crushed my healbone, broke my tailbone, fractured my L5 and broke my L1.
We had travel insurance.
To get to the island hospital, I had to be transported in the back of a pickup truck (no ambulance service)
The hospital on the island we stayed at could only stitch up the heal, there was no xray facility. I was given enough pain killers and antibiotics to last 2 days. I was then transported back to the villa, in a borrowed wheelchair in the back of a pickup truck. My wife phoned the ins company for help. They would not do anything until they received faxed medical evidence of the injuries. They did say they would pay for the cab when we arrived at the next island to get to the xray clinic and doctor. My wife then had to transport me in the wheelchair in the back of a pickup truck once again, to the ferry terminal for a Friday 6:30am departure. I was allowed to stay in the wheelchair in the hull of the ferry for the duration of the ride. Once we arrived at 7:30am at the other island, a cab was there to meet us. We were to go to the xray clinic first and then the doctor. We waited in the cab from 7:30am to 8:30am for the clinic to open (I had a bag and towel under my foot as it was still bleeding even after the stiches) The xrays took till 11:30am to complete and we went to the doctors office immediatly only to find he was not in till after 1pm. My wife then rented a hotel room on the ground floor. The cab driver and my wife helped me in so I could lay horizontal while we waited for the doctor.
1pm came and the cab driver returned, and once again with the help of the driver and my wife helped me into the cab and then the doctors office.
The above injuries were confirmed at the doctors office and all medical information was faxed to the ins. company (this was now 3pm). The doctor then casted the foot to help contain the bleeding for the trip home.
The doctor requested crutches so that I would be more mobile, as my wife could not help much.
We were out of cash.
Medical supplies and prescriptions could not be bought with credit cards.
After another lengthly journey in town trying to get cash and prescriptions etc, my wife finally said that was enough and had me returned to the hotel so that she could once again phone the ins. company and I could lay horizontal as I was in extreme pain.
(Thank god the hotel had a resturant, so that we could have room service)
The ins. company said someone would be there Sat mid morning to air lift us back home. My wife checked us out.
Sat mid morning came and went. My wife called the ins.company again. They said they were having difficulties getting a bed for me in my home town hospital. Then said someone would be there for 6pm.
At 5:30pm my wife paid the bill again, and had me ready for transport.
At 5:40 the ins. company called and said someone would be there at about 11:00pm and we would be transported by air ambulance Sunday morning at 6am.
The peramidic and nurse arrived at 10:30pm and checked me over. They said they would not put me in a neckbrace or backbrace until the morning.
In the morning I was braced up, and transported home.
When we finally arrived at our local hospital, no record was found of anyone trying to secure a bed for me at all. I was admitted into the emergency at 3pm Sunday.
I had another set of xrays done, as no one even looked at the first set that I had with me. They redressed my heal and re casted it. At around 10:30pm I was finally admitted. Monday morning I went in for surgery to clean and restitch the wound as best they could for I was told my foot was first and foremost in concerns, and my back would be dealt with after.
My delema,
What actions should I take? Can I take?

Resolved Question: Did anybody see the list of extras added to the $700 billion Wall Street bail out?
Remember when that bail out plan kept going back and forth, back and forth and THEN got signed? Hmmmm....... did anybody see all the "extra" stuff attached to it? You know the old saying "scratch my back ...."? Isn't it amazing how much other stuff gets tacked on to a bill that we only know the title of -- granted some of this is necessary and helpful, but come on: Children's wooden arrows, rum excise tax revenues to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands; and does THIS sound fair: Accelerated depreciation for property used mostly on an Indian reservation?
More on the Bill
Apart from the Troubled Assets Relief Program, the bill before the Senate includes:
* Extensions of the AMT patch, tax deductions on state and local sales taxes, tuition, teacher expenses and real property taxes and tax credits for business research and new market investors
* Energy tax credits and incentives to encourage wind and refined coal production, new biomass facilities, wave and tide electricity generators, solar energy property improvements, CO2 capturing, plug-in electric drive vehicles, idling reduction units on truck engines, cellulosic biofuels ethanol production, energy efficient houses, offices, dishwashers, clothes washers and refrigerators, and fringe benefits for employees commuting by bicycle.
* A requirement for private insurance plans to offer mental health benefits on par with medical-surgical benefits
* Tax relief provisions for victims of this summer's Midwestern floods, and Hurricane Ike
* Freezing of deductions for sale and exchange of oil and natural gas, mandatory basis reporting by brokers for transactions involving publicly traded securities and an extension of the oil spill tax
But it also extends the following tax provisions:
* Economic development credit to American Samoan businesses
* $10,000 tax credit for training of mine rescue team members
* 50% immediate expensing for extra underground mine safety equipment
* Tax credit for businesses with employees from an Indian reservation
* Accelerated depreciation for property used mostly on an Indian reservation
* 50% tax credit for some expenditures on maintaining railroad tracks
* 7-year recovery period for motorsports racetrack property
* Expensing of cleaning up "brownfield" contaminated sites
* Enhanced deductions for businesses donating computers and books to schools, and for food donations
* Deduction for income from domestic production in Puerto Rico
* Tax credit for employees in Hurricane Katrina disaster area
* Tax incentives for investments in poor neighborhoods in D.C.
* Increased rehabilitation credit for buildings in Gulf area
* Reduction of import duties on some imported wool fabrics, transfers other duties to Wool Trust Fund to promote competitiveness of American wool
* Special expensing rules for film and TV productions
And there's more:
* Increasing cover of rum excise tax revenues to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
* Making it easier for film and TV companies to use deduction for domestic production
* Exempting children's wooden arrows from excise tax
* Income averaging for Exxon Valdez litigants for tax purposes

Voting Question: Are police reports public record?
I know someone who is trying to commit insurance fraud and I don't know the insurance company who they are trying to sue. It was about a month ago and someone I know wrecked my brothers car, was not hurt.. I am an emt and got the refusal. After this girl spoke with her mother on the phone.. her mother saw $$ and knew a dr who was a family friend. the girl told me, my brother and family several times that she wasn't hurt at all but her mom made her go, saying they would sue later. In the mean time, she has gone to kings island, went rock climbing.. all of which we have pictures. She signed a refusal that day, yet went to the hospital later, after talking with her mom. I cannot stand when people abuse the system and commit fraud, we all end up paying for this in the end. I just need the name of the guys insurance co, would that be on the incident report and can I access it from the city?

Resolved Question: Proof of loss/Flood insurance pay out question?
After almost 6 weeks I finally got my adjusters proof of loss estimate from the damages to my home from Hurricane IKE, while I understand the total devestation here on the island, I am worried about time frames and how things go from this point on..
1. We have 39 thous in damages on a 204 thous dollar home, should I expect the flood ins. company to dispute or try to fight this estimate? How long does it usually take IF things go smoothly from here on out? I have tennants I need to get back in their units so I can get rent again to help with mortgage payments.
2. How does this work, do I find the contractors, plumbing, drywall, flooring electricial or does my flood compnay choose who does what, and how do the funds for repairs get dispursed? Do they send me a check for it all at once, does it sit in a bank like an equity line of credit so to speak or do I submit receipts and invoices and the company cuts the contractors a check?
Never been thru a claim process (or such a devestating hurricane) before, thanks in advance....
